There are many reasons to use GreenScan 3D. For some golf clubs, their place in golf history is important enough to demand an accurate archival record of their revered greens. For others, GreenScan 3D is simply the best and most cost-effective way to flawlessly rebuild the greens their members have come to love and respect. And though the reasons for using our services vary, the end result is always the same… a detailed digital record of every contour and nuance that makes each golf green unique.
Since first launching GreenScan 3D in 2002, Scott Pool has scanned golf courses nationwide. We can´t identify all of them… some of our clients prefer to keep their business dealings private… but here are a few of the projects we can tell you about.
Current projects include the Pete Dye-designed Birmingham Country Club in Birmingham Alabama and Vesper Country Club, in Tyngsboro, Massachussetts.
Peachtree Golf Club, Atlanta, Georgia

This classic Robert Trent Jones, Sr. design was completed in 1948 and is regularly ranked among the Best of the Best by Golf Digest, Golf Magazine and Golfweek. In 2006, it is listed as #39 among Golfweek´s Top 100 Classic Courses, ranking higher than such well known courses as Baltusrol and Olympia Fields. Peachtree is unquestionably one of metropolitan Atlanta´s gems.
Two years ago, Peachtree underwent a major renovation, including resodding the entire course with zoysia. Pool was asked to scan all the putting surfaces, and to ensure that the data would always be accurate… even if original reference coordinates were lost… the club had him geographically reference all scanned data to Georgia´s State Plane Coordinate System. To complete the job, we built digital terrain models and Scott trained both the Superintendent´s staff and the contractor in the proper use of the Robotic Total Station for grade control.
The result? A perfect restoration of a classic golf course.

Sewickley Heights Country Club, Sewickley Heights, Pennsylvania
The 18-hole "Sewickley Heights" course at the Sewickley Heights Golf Club in Sewickley, Pennsylvania opened in 1960. With a renovation planned, and wanting to maintain the exact putting characteristics designed into the greens by architects James G. Harrison and Ferdinand Garbin, the club hired GreenScan 3D to scan all greens and surrounding areas.

Cypress Point Club, Monterrey, California
Alister MacKenzie's design of Cypress Point Club was a remarkable achievement… a perfect blend of a great architect and a remarkable piece of land. Anticipating the need for renovation, yet wanting to maintain the remarkable nature of MacKenzie's work, the Club had GreenScan 3D scan all greens and provide data to support Preservation, Reconstruction and Grade Control.

Eagle Eye Golf Club, Bath, Michigan
This project, co-designed by Pete Dye and Chris Lutzke, was one of the first completed by Scott. Looking over the course at an early stage of development, Scott noticed one hole under construction that had a big pile of dirt in an excavated lake. He asked Lutzke their plans for the hole and was told, "Just an island, sort of like the TPC 17th." When Scott mentioned his work with technology that could capture the famous 17th in precise detail so the new hole could be an exact replica and not simply a facsimile, the deal was struck. He scanned the hole at Sawgrass in the summer of 2002 and the replicated green at Eagle Eye was completed that fall.

Pinetree Golf Club, Boynton Beach, Florida
Ben Hogan once called Pine Tree, "The greatest flat course in the country." Famed sports announcer Jim McKay said, "Pine Tree, with its shallow, elevated greens, its 148 bunkers, and its perfect conditioning belongs on anyone´s list of the World´s Best." In 2003, when this superb club rebuilt its greens, Scott Pool was engaged to work his magic. He provided "as-built" contour maps of all the putting surfaces, as well as computer models of each green.

Harbour Ridge Yacht & Country Club, Palm City, Florida, River Ridge Course
Harbour Ridge is somewhat unique among golf course communities because of its recognition as a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary. River Ridge, one of two courses on the property, is a Pete and P.B. Dye classic. Since its opening in 1984, it´s been recognized as one of the most difficult courses in Florida, carrying a USGA rating of 73.7 and a slope of 139. In 2003, Scott Pool was asked to restore all 18 greens. After scanning the greens, creating computer models and contour maps, he completed the job himself, grading and finishing the greens to their original state.

The Sanctuary at Wulfert Point, Sanibel Island, Florida
Weaving and winding its way past clear lakes and majestic palms, this 6,806 yard championship golf course serves as a testament to the developer´s ability to accommodate both nature and the consummate golfer. Course Architect Arthur Hill said of The Sanctuary, "This could possibly be the most delightful, pleasant, enjoyable, playable golf course we´ve ever had the opportunity to do in Southwest Florida."
In 2005, when the greens needed to be rebuilt, 2nd best was never a consideration, and GreenScan 3D was the club´s choice for capturing data and restoring the greens. In addition to the initial scans, we provided grade control for the subgrades and computer models of all the greens. Scott then trained the contractor in the proper use of the Total Robotic Station.
